Nicola Armaroli is a CNR Research Director and a member of the Italian National Academy of Sciences. His research is focussed on two main topics (i) the photochemistry and photophysics of molecules and materials for solar energy conversion and lighting; (ii) the study of the energy transition to more sustainable models and technologies, also in relation to resource scarcity and climate change. He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), associate editor of Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences (RSC), and member of the Editorial Board of Chemistry-A European Journal (Wiley-VCH) and Polyhedron (Elsevier Science). He is elected member of the Executive Board of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS) and serves as director of Sapere, the first Italian science periodical, established in 1935. Among several recognitions, he was awarded the Gold Medal Enzo Tiezzi of the Italian Chemical Society in 2017 and the Ravani Pellati Prize for Chemistry of the Torino Acamemy of Sciences in 2019.
